Chandelao Garh

Chandelao, India
Chandelao Garh — hotel photograph
A beautiful architectural homage to the heritage, culture and beauty of Rajasthan’s past, Chandelao Garh is an adored, historic family home that has been transformed into an immersive cultural journey of a hotel.

Walking through the rooms here, you feel the love for this building and the stories that it tells. Family photographs, royal portraits, local art and handiworks adorn the walls while the traditional furniture is the perfect accompaniment to the intricate architectural detailing. The rooms are divided between what was once the family’s stables and those in the historical men’s quarters with both offering an authentic glimpse into Rajasthani history.

Meals are freshly prepared traditional dishes using locally sourced ingredients and served in the arched stone dining room, our outside under the dark star-lit skies. The ancient walls of the building encircle the inner courtyard, their warm stone providing an idyllic backdrop to the vast outdoor pool. Serenity here seeps into your soul as you wander the stone paths of the hotel, relax in the shade of the trees or head out to explore the plethora of local temples and snapshots of rural life in Rajasthan.

What we love

    • Venturing out by jeep into the countryside of western Rajasthan offers the inimitable opportunity to envelop yourself in this microcosm of rural life. Viewing local artisans at work, spotting antelopes and vultures and stopping at a Bishnoi homestead all lead to a truly immersive journey that leaves an indelible impression
    • The birds in this quiet corner of Rajasthan draw bird watchers from across the world. Visit between October and March and you’ll spot a myriad of migratory species across the fields and lakes
    • A camel cart ride to a rocky outcrop, the sun setting over the Thar desert and the limitless stars of the night sky all combine into the perfect backdrop for the hotel’s open fire barbecue

Chandelao Garh is only a short drive from Jodhpur, but it feels remote and deeply rural. The emphasis is not on flashy modern facilities, but on celebrating the heritage culture, architecture and lifestyle of this time-honoured way of life
Chandelao Garh welcomes children with family rooms on offer.
The hotel owners established Sunder Rang, an arts and craft project for local women, next door to the hotel. Celebrating and teaching traditional handiwork the enterprise facilitates a sustainable livelihood for the local community. There is also a fund from the hotel to help support the local school and improve the educational opportunities in the village. As much of the food served in the hotel’s restaurant as possible supports the farm-to-table ethos of using local produce to contribute to the regional economy.
Only 40km from Jodhpur airport and 45km from the station, Chandelao Garh is easy to reach from the city and a welcome, peaceful retreat in the Rajasthan countryside, away from the hustle of the blue city’s maze of streets. The hotel is close to the traditional rural village of Chandelao, with its vibrant bazaars and narrow streets.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.
Roy Wood (February 2026)
Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.
Alie C (February 2026)
I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace
Daisy Stanton (February 2026)
My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!
Andrew S (February 2026)
Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.
Martin Thomas (February 2026)
Wonderful company. Our holiday in Sri Lanka was perfect. Local knowledge made all the difference
Sandra Nicholson  (February 2026)
We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.
Jayant Banerji (February 2026)
A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
