Fort Barli offers a window into the centuries-old history of the Barli Raj.

This charming but simple rural heritage property has been the pride of a single family for 16 generations, and the eight spacious guest rooms reflect its history. Expect warm hospitality from the moment you arrive, as you’re regaled with stories of the legendary Rajput warriors in the family. Spend your free time exploring the fort, enjoy a spot of morning birdwatching, or roam the village streets. When it’s time to unwind, relax by the pool, make use of the spa, or stretch out with some yoga.

What we love

A step back in time to a lost period of Indian history
Plenty of activities available, including village visits, birding, tours of the fort, henna, astrology, swimming and more
Wonderful hosts who will make you feel right at home
Traditional Indian dining inspired by royal Barli recipes

Some parts of the hotel need updating, though we don’t think this detracts from the property’s charm

Off the beaten track, but perfect for those looking for an escape from India’s cities

Some of the rooms are a little small, but we think it’s worth it for those who prefer to spend their time exploring

Families are welcome and the hosts run plenty of activities, though we think the hotel is better suited to couples and older families.
