Punjab Village Farm

Amritsar, India
Luxury hotel banner
With an unwavering ethos centred around sharing the Punjab farming community’s way of life, Punjab Village Farm provides a farm-stay brimming over with cultural immersion.

Surrounded by acres of farmland, canals and woodland, the farm is a wonderfully secluded escape in the rolling countryside of Northern India. The farm’s mud and straw-plastered guest cottages are inspired by the traditional settlements built on the banks of the Indus River in 3,000 BC and blend seamlessly with the landscape.

Inside, flooded by natural light through large windows, the rustic nature of the exterior is upheld by the perfectly curated lime whitewashed walls, dark furnishings and subtle artworks. The cuisine is inspiringly authentic using fresh ingredients sourced locally and from the farm itself. Food is served across a range of outdoor dining spots; from a secluded veranda nestled amongst tall trees to alongside flickering bonfires under a starry sky.

What we love

    • We loved the experience of the local-style cold dip, jumping into the traditional ‘tube-well’ plunge pool
    • The property offers a chance to work as a ‘farmer for an hour’ on the farm, learning traditional and sustainable cultivation methods
    • Hop onboard an ancient bullock cart to roll slowly through the farms and villages, gently experiencing their time-honoured way of life
    • A visit to a local Gurudwara to observe the evening Kirtan (holy hymns) offers a deep insight into the spiritual resonance of the region

The farm removes you entirely from the bustle of the busy cities, immersing you in a remote rural culture. It is a 90-minute drive from the nearest city of Amritsar, so not the best choice if you’re after a base for city sightseeing

Families are welcomed on the farm, and are easily accommodated in the cottages. The farm boasts a range of activities suitable for children and the warm and attentive staff will be more than happy to make suggestions for family days out

Sustainable, eco-friendly principles are at the heart of the farm’s stewardship, from its waste management to its use of botanical fertilisers and crop rotation schemes. The cottages themselves were built using traditional, low-impact construction methods, with a local workforce Community is at the heart of the farm; not only is all the food locally sourced, but the staff encourage and accompany guests to visit the neighbouring communities and immerse themselves in the local culture

The hotel sits in the far north of Punjab, the nearest international airport is 90km away at Amritsar. Trains across Indian run from Gurdaspur Railway Station, 20km away

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
