Rajakkad Estate

Dindigal, India
Luxury hotel banner
Encircled by the tranquillity of the Palani Hills, 1,000 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Western Ghats, the Rajakkad estate boasts its own farm, coffee plantation and extensive gardens.
They have all been gently nurtured into existence by the owners since their arrival in 2002, using traditional, organic and environmentally friendly methods. The estate’s original 18th century wooden home, Pallam Palace, sits in the centre of the lush grounds and is a beautiful testament to the area’s rich architectural heritage. It hosts seven ensuite bedrooms featuring cooling black floors and white-washed walls accented with authentic Indian art and vibrant colour fabrics, each offers private access to the abundant gardens. The food here takes you on a journey straight into the heart of southern Indian cuisine. Home-cooked using organic ingredients from the onsite farm, the traditional meals are served in the shade of the abundant trees.

What we love

    • We love the hotel’s guided walks through the surrounding landscape, venturing from local coffee plantations to secluded swimming spots, complete with a home-cooked packed lunch
    • A visit to the estate’s farm should not be missed, the hotel team’s approach towards sustainable food provision and land management is admirable and is an ode to the long history of farming in the area
    • The estate features a stone yoga platform for personal yoga and meditation. It is enclosed by flowering fauna and is a haven of peace with yoga mats and equipment provided
The nearest major town of Dindigul is 50km away, so access to everyday modernity is limited. However, this remote tranquility is exactly what makes Rajakkad so special
Families are welcomed on the estate and extra beds can be added to the rooms on request. The surrounding countryside provides endless opportunities for family day trips and activities.
Sustainability is at the heart of the hotel’s ethos, their farm provides ingredients for all the meals and is managed by local staff. The grounds themselves are maintained using natural composting and animal waste from the farm, alongside rainwater harvesting for the long seasons of drought. The surrounding villages of the estate boast a vibrant community, which the hotel staff are keen to share with guests, providing guided tours of the surrounding
The closest airports are Madurai (two hours) and Tiruchirapalli (three hours), the hotel offers transfers both to and from each airport. One of the largest Hindu temples in the country, the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, is a short trip from the hotel.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
