Shahpura Bagh

Shahpura, India
Luxury hotel banner
Shahpura Bagh is the antidote to India’s hectic cities and it’s one of our favourites in rural Rajasthan.

This pretty boutique heritage hotel is conveniently sat halfway between Jaipur and Udaipur and is surrounded by fields, quiet woodlands and its own private lakes, and is a haven for those hoping to embrace both Rajasthani birdlife, rural culture and some time relaxing. You might see one of 180 bird species while eating breakfast on the lawn, lounging by the pool, or washing off the day’s heat in the unique outdoor showers.

Your meals are home-cooked with homegrown food, prepared and served by staff from the village. And Jai, the owner, will make sure you feel at home as he regales you with stories by the campfire.

What we love

    • A pretty heritage boutique hotel in an idyllic slice of rural Rajasthan
    • Over 180 bird species can be seen in the surrounding wetlands – it’s also a haven for birdwatchers
    • The pool is heated and surrounded by plush daybeds
    • Ideally located to break up the journey between Udaipur and Jaipur

Dinner is a set menu and there are limited options for lunch, with no alternative dining options nearby

The property is remote – it’s a 4-hour drive from Udaipur or Jaipur but we think it’s worth the journey and this is often the perfect place to stop

Families are warmly welcome and rooms can accommodate extra cots or beds. There aren’t any specific amenities for families but the pool is heated and kids will love exploring the wetlands, visiting local farms, and adventuring on a bumpy bullock-cart ride.
The property’s original owner mortgaged the family jewels and assets to create a rainwater harvesting system in the region. From there, the community projects have only expanded, and subsequent owners founded multiple schools in the area. Educating the local communities to develop the economy is an important part of their mission, and the hotel’s owners invite guests to partake in philanthropic activities and give back to the community.
Shahpura Bagh sits on the edge of Shahpura village, surrounded by wetlands. It’s almost halfway between Udaipur and Jaipur.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

Wonderful company. Our holiday in Sri Lanka was perfect. Local knowledge made all the difference

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
