Getting around
This journey has become increasingly popular in recent years due to social media, and tickets have become increasingly more difficult to obtain. This often means that the train can feel busy during peak periods. The more scenic route is really from Nanu Oya or Hatton further south. You don’t need to do the whole journey. Alternatively we can organise much shorter train legs, or even go back on yourself very slightly in order to have a quieter experience. Some of our clients prefer to go by road, as this gives greater flexibility.
At Red Dot, we organise our trips using primarily a private car but also by train, light aircraft flight or by helicopter.
Yes Cinnamon Air offer daily scheduled and charter flights across the island. Stops include Colombo BIA. Habantota, Kandy, Koggala Lake, Sigiriya, Castlereagh, Trincomalee and Passikudah. We normally wouldn’t connect these to international flights. We can include these in your tailor-made itinerary of Sri Lanka.
Yes of course, it’s possible to backpack around Sri Lanka, however this comes with its risks ad a lot of time spent organising and researching. Red Dot design completely bespoke holidays to Sri Lanka that are designed just for you, to take out all of the hassle planning. We also provide full support on the ground, 24 hours a day.
We would not recommend this.
