Guiding in Sri Lanka
Our tailor-made trips to Sri Lanka include a private chauffeur guide and they are key to your trip. They are basically a driver and guide all in one. This means that your driver-guide really gets to know you, and we select one based on the type of people you are and what you like. Doing it this way means you can easily stop in places on the way, understand different things on your journey and your chauffeur guides avoid repeating himself across the trip. This allows for true story telling and building on your knowledge as you head through your trip to Sri Lanka.. In addition to this, we also arrange very carefully selected local guides or ‘hosts’ that bring an even more specific and specialist element to your trip. These can range from a local walking tour, a local cinnamon planter, an author, a wildlife specialist, a chef, a tuk tuk tour with a local, a hiking specialist on the Pekoe Trail. The combination of a chauffeur guide and more local guides means you get the best of both worlds and a much deeper connection and understanding of the country.
Our chauffeur guides are highly trained and vetted, and because we have 20 years of experience in Sri Lanka, we are able to base our trips and our driver selection on many years’ worth of feedback from our clients. We also pay our guides and drivers more than average, which we feel is not only more ethical, but it also ensures high quality. We also try to base on selections on your personal interests, for example if you are passionate about birds and nature we will do everything we can to arrange a driver-guide that is also passionate and knowledgeable about birds and nature. Similarly, if you have young children, we’ll match you to a guide that is great with young children. Please see our reviews on Trip Advisor and Feefo to get a better understanding of our feedback.
Whilst we don’t currently offer female chauffeur guides (because currently there aren’t any available), we have a number of female guides/hosts across the island that we love to use. Regrettably there aren’t many but this is something we are working on increasing with changing outlooks in Sri Lanka
