Rosyth Estate

Kegalle, Sri Lanka
Luxury hotel banner
A fabulous retreat cocooned within a private 62-acre, working tea and rubber plantation, the Rosyth Estate House is an original 1926 colonial planter’s bungalow reimagined into a serene boutique guesthouse.

Surrounded by lush gardens, dense jungle and misty hill-top views, punctuated by forest trails and waterfalls, it’s the ideal base for delving into this bio-diverse and fertile region. Guided estate walks, tea-plucking, rubber-tapping and tea factory tours give an immersive hill-country experience.

The accommodation ranges from a stand-alone villa to suites and rooms in the main house, all named after trees found across the estate. Simply furnished and spacious, with an elegant nod to the bungalow’s colonial heritage, the rooms are designed to offer a restoratively calm and comfortable stay. The house is a haven of tranquillity, from the jungle-fringed swimming pool to the small onsite Rock Spa and yoga pavilion, offering complimentary daily sessions. Food here reflects the owners’ passion for Sri Lankan cuisine, using organic produce, homegrown on the estate, wherever possible.

What we love

    • There is a huge amount to do here, from estate tours, guided wildlife walks and waterfall swims to cookery lessons, hiking and mountain biking.
    • The onsite micro tea factory gives a fascinating insight into organic, artisanal and hand-rolled tea production.
    • The plethora of walking and cycling trails from the door ensure that you are surrounded by the fantastic biodiversity at every turn, look out for hornbills, eagles, langurs and deer.

The pool is small and relatively cool in temperature, blissfully restorative after a long hill trek.

The layout of the estate with suites built into the hillside, rugged terrain and plenty of steps mean it may not suit those with mobility issues.

Perched on the hills near Kegalle, just over one hour from Kandy, Rosyth Estate offers serene seclusion, expansive hill-country views and a cool climate whilst being within easy distance of Sri Lanka’s highlights. The Cultural Triangle sites are 3-hour’s drive away, while the international airport at Colombo is a 2-hour drive.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
