The Mudhouse is deliberately rustic, with no mains electricity in the guest huts; lighting is provided by candles, lanterns and solar-powered lights. Each hut has an indoor bathroom and an outdoor jungle shower, making it best suited to travellers who enjoy immersive, back-to-nature stays rather than conventional hotel luxury.
The property is not licensed to sell alcohol, although guests may bring their own.
Families are welcome, and the private hut clusters and range of outdoor activities make this a memorable option for adventurous children. It is best suited to families who are comfortable with a rustic, off-grid setting and plenty of time in nature.
Set within around 50 acres of forest near Anamaduwa in Sri Lanka’s North Western Province, The Mudhouse is approximately two and a half hours from Bandaranaike International Airport. Wilpattu National Park, Yapahuwa and Kalpitiya can also be visited on excursions from the property.
