Located near Ella, The Pinnacle Ella (Formally Mountain Heaven) is a very simple but well run eight-bedroom guesthouse in Sri Lanka’s Southern Highlands with a privileged clifftop location looking out to views of Ella Gap and the Bambaragama Waterfalls.

Perched high on a hill, surrounded by mountain peaks and lush vegetation, it has an enviable spot right in front of Ella Gap and Little Adam's Peak. Guests can relax in their private balcony, enjoying the seriously special sunsets.

The Ella bound train goes by the hotel and is interesting to track it as the red steam engine winds itself around the mountains and gradually disappears. The Pinnacle Ella is terraced with the dining and lounge areas at the entrance level and rooms located many steps down at different levels.

What we love

    • The infinity pool and the views are quite immense
    • So well located if you want to be near Ella

Due to the steep steps, the hotel isn't designed with small children in mind

It's very simple and slightly tired, but if you can look past this the views are worth it

Families are very welcome, but ideally older children
Just on the edge of Ella, in Sri Lanka's tea country. The Pinnacle Ella is a 5 minute drive from Ella Station.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.
