The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
Guests are provided with a personalised service at this Edwardian-style bungalow which was once the home of a Scottish tea planter, and which has been caringly brought back to life by Jetwing Hotels. The five luxurious ensuite bedrooms each with a unique ambience, elegant living and dining rooms complete with working fire places, and sprawling gardens make this an ideal holiday retreat. Although rented by the room, ample communal spaces and gardens allow much privacy.
Five elegant bedrooms have antique beds dressed in fine linen and have working fireplaces in four of the rooms. Braemer, Oakleigh and Glenoch are classed as Superior Rooms. Warwick is classed as the Master Suite and the White Room (also known as Netherleigh) is the grandest.
The White Room: A romantic hideaway with beautiful views over the front gardens, tea estate and mountains. Once known as Netherleigh, this room has an additional living area. Interiors here are milky white with a comfortable king size bed.
Warwick Master Suite: This is a spacious master suite furnished with a king sized four poster canopied antique bed and has beautiful views of the front gardens, tea estate and mountains. The ensuite bathroom has a Victorian style bathtub and h/w shower.
A cosy living room, complete with a fireplace and grand piano, opens out to a patio and terraced gardens. A dramatic red dining room with a 10-seater table and crystal chandelier also opens out to the front gardens. There is a separate breakfast room, lounge area with satellite TV, selection of DVDs and indoor board games, and office room with telephone and an extensive library. Sri Lankan, Indian and western cuisine are prepared with fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits from their own gardens. Warwick Gardens also has a farm from which free range eggs and fresh milk is collected each morning. A collection of wines and spirits are on offer. There are no meal times or set menus. Meals are prepared according to guest’s wishes and served in the dining room or in the gardens overlooking the tea-covered hills. Other facilities include room service, butler service, doctor on call and baby cots on request.
Jetwing Warwick Gardens is a refurbished colonial tea planter’s bungalow on a 30-acre tea estate in Ambewela. En route to Horton Plains, Ambewela can be accessed by road in about 45 minutes from Nuwara Eliya. The Ambewela train station is just 15 minutes' drive. The journey from Colombo’s International Airport will take about six hours, or consider air taxi options. You can also head to the south coast via a daily sea plane service between Hatton and Koggala.
