Kathmandu

Kathmandu Valley, Nepal

Kathmandu is chaotic, fascinating and unlike anywhere else. The city sprawls across a valley at 1,400 metres and throws everything at you at once: ancient temples, local bazaars, incense smoke, motorbikes and monastery bells.

Durbar Square and the stupa at Boudhanath are the obvious starting points, but the city offers its best on foot with a guide, wandering through neighbourhoods that most visitors never reach. It was significantly affected by the 2015 earthquake and reconstruction is still ongoing in places, but the city's spirit and energy are very much intact. We know it well and can help you find your footing quickly before heading further into the country.
