The lodge comes into its own at sunrise when the dawn chorus of birds and the kaleidoscopic colours reflected in Weerawila Lake are enough to draw even the sleepiest of guests out onto their private, lakeside deck. The seven luxury tented lodges all overlook the lake, offering a perfect blend of luxury and seclusion, akin to the most sophisticated African safari camps.

Meals at Flameback are prepared with a focus on organic, locally sourced ingredients, often coming from the lodge’s own garden or neighbouring suppliers. After a busy day exploring the nearby parks, you can cool off in the camp’s small lakeview pool or curl up on your private deck with a book from the camp’s library.y sourced ingredients, often coming from the lodge’s own garden or local suppliers.

What we love

    • We loved the laidback charm and serene atmosphere
    • The location works brilliant for Yala National Park, Uda Walawe National Park and Bundala
    • The bird watching trek with the resident naturalist is an experience not to be missed
    • A private dinner can be arranged next to the serene waters of the lake, serenaded by the evening calls of thousands of resident birds

The tents are fairly close to each other, so whilst you can’t see other people from your own tent, you may hear people in the neighbouring tent.

It’s a bit of a drive to get to Yala (32km away), but its proximity to other parks and the lakeside location outweighs this in our opinion

The lodge has one self-contained family villa with all other accommodation options offering additional beds or cribs where required. Activities and entertainment are provided for younger guests including a Junior Naturalist Programme educating children about the local wildlife and conservation efforts.

Children’s meals available on request and nature trails, bird watching, fishing, cooking and cycling activities are all encouraged with children.

The team at Flameback Eco Lodge puts great sway on its environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism principles. The lodge integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings and has been constructed using eco-conscious materials to minimize environmental impact.

Community engagement is a foundation philosophy of the camp, with local artisans visiting to carry out immersive experiences for guests from palmyrah weaving and pottery as well as displaying their wares within the rooms. The lodge team organise educational visits to local villages where guests can enjoy authentic home-cooked meals.

Flameback Eco Lodge is nestled within the Weerawila Tissa Sanctuary in Sri Lanka’s deep south, just west of Tissamaharama. It is Ideally positioned for those looking to explore the southern national parks, including both Uda Walawe National Park and Yala National Park, providing an excellent base should you wish to visit more than one park during your stay.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North Eat India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
