The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
The Galle & Colombo School Cricket Tour is a memorable 10-day tour that will provide schoolboys a chance to play at some of Sri Lanka’s finest cricketing venues as well as a glimpse into the island’s ancient cultural heritage and lifestyle. We have also included a few days with the Foundation of Goodness for an enriching experience of interacting with a coastal community.
Red Dot cricket itineraries go through three simple stages: a Sample Itinerary (as below), which might meet your aims and aspirations for the most part and which can be adjusted as required; a Draft Itinerary, drawn up once an itinerary has been agreed upon in principle with all parties; and a Final Itinerary, which confirms your arrangements a few weeks before travel. Red Dot can also arrange for good quality tour cricket shirts and polo shirts for collection on your arrival.
All our tours are entirely flexible and can be tailored to your requirements. Our expertise in organizing Sri Lanka cricket tours over 15 years comes alongside the sort of sharp prices you would expect from a proven travel company based in Sri Lanka.
After your arrival at Colombo's international airport, transfer by coach to the cultural triangle and rest and recuperate after your flight. Day 2 is an educational day which offers a scramble to the summit of Mount Sigiriya before breakfast, all completed before the arrival of the tourist buses, and an exploration of the ruined city of Polonnuruwa. That should leave ample time for a swim before dusk and the chance to luxuriate in the sights and sounds of Sri Lanka.
Head to the capital city of Colombo for your next four days on this paradise island. A practice session will be arranged on Day 3 with the chance for some tuition by a respected Sri Lankan coach. You will have two games here. Spend your free time enjoying the sights and sounds of the island’s capital. Enjoy a final end of tour dinner at the Cricket Club Cafe.
MATCH 1 is at Murali's home club - Tamil Union CC, played at one of Colombo’s Test venues – the P. Saravanamuttu International Stadium. The ground is renowned for its large balcony dressing room and reaper-clad scoreboard.
MATCH 2 is on the ground of a top Sri Lankan college. Cricket is a passion in Sri Lanka's leading schools and the visit of touring sides is always regarded as a thrill.
Transfer after breakfast to the coastal town of Hikkaduwa in Sri Lanka's south west. After your arrival, head off to the Foundation of Goodness situated in the village of Seenigama just a few kilometres north of Hikkaduwa. This village was destroyed as a result of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami and redeveloped by the Foundation of Goodness charity, with the help of Surrey and MCC among others. There is ample chance for beach life here in this sparky little resort as well as a visit to Galle's ancient Dutch Fort.
MATCH 3 is at the Seenigama Oval, set in the school grounds. The wicket is a well-kept artificial one, with a well-tended outfield. As a part of the Foundation of Goodness programme, the cricketers will be interacting, learning and helping out the local village community in various capacities, giving a memorable insight into island life. By evening, head back to Hikkaduwa and enjoy the beaches and the laid back lifestyle of this coastal town.
MATCH 4 is at the Galle International Stadium with the 17C Dutch Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, looming large as a spectacular backdrop to this re-established and re-vamped Test venue. This famous old ground was rebuilt after the tsunami, and received an outpouring of support and affection that confirmed it as one of the most loved venues in the world. Unsurprisingly, ground rental charges have risen to meet a challenging future – we can offer cheaper options if you wish - but the game has an undeniable resonance.
Kassapa Lions Rock named after the legend that surrounds the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress, is a peaceful holiday retreat with 51 individual chalets scattered over 10 acres of landscaped gardens in the heart of the Cultural Triangle.
Cinnamon Red offers comfortable accommodation in the centre of Colombo. This ultra-modern hotel spans 26 floors and has fantastic views across the city centre. It has a pool, gym and rooftop bar and is decorated throughout with vibrant bursts of crimson.
Citrus is a mid-market beach hotel in Hikkaduwa, a chilled-out resort which sprang to prominence as a favourite haunt on the Sixties backpacker trail and is regaining its youthful, informal feel, with one of the best surfing beaches in Sri Lanka and a scattering of decent beachside bars, restaurants and sporadically-appearing nightclubs.
