You'll start at the main entrance and make your way up onto the ramparts. The views over the ocean at night are worth the trip alone, and on a clear evening you can see the cricket ground glowing below. Your guide knows this place inside out and shares stories that actually make you stop and think, covering everything from the fort's earliest days to the sea battles fought in its shadow.
From there it's a wander through the streets, lanterns, cobblestones, old colonial buildings that look completely different once the sun goes down. You'll see the Lighthouse and Clock Tower up close, but also duck into quieter spots that most people walk straight past. The history here spans Portuguese, Dutch and British rule, and your guide doesn't shy away from the harder parts either, including how the community rebuilt after the 2004 Tsunami.
Roughly 2 hours in total.
