It is just about possible to see the best-known attractions of Sri Lanka in one week, but it will be hectic and exhuasting.Sri Lanka itinerary which involves the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, the highlands, a game park and a quick dip in the Indian Ocean will leave you as travel-weary as the most stereotypical package tourist, clicking the camera out of the coach window before rushing off for the next destination and spending countless hours on the road.If that is the holiday you need then expert advice on routes and accommodation is vital to reduce your travel time wherever possible.Far better in most cases to decide your priorities and decide which part of the island holds most appeal.Possible one-week itineraries include one week trips that include Culture Triangle, Kandy and Negombo or Wadduwa (i.e. 3 nights Cultural Triangle, 2 nights Kandy, 2 nights Negombo or Wadduwa). Another popular option is 3 nights in the Hill Country and then 4 nights on the south or west coast.

Two weeks is the most common time period for a Sri Lanka tour, with your Sri Lanka holiday often finishing with several days on a tropical beach.The majority of our set itineraries are over this duration and aim to give you an instant insight into the many alternatives available.There are more ways of touring Sri Lanka than are seen in the staple package-tour brochures. To get the best out of your fortnight’s holiday, it is hugely important to identify your priorities. Often a successful holiday is as much about what you leave out as what you put in.A traditional two-week holiday includes a 8-day clockwise tour starting from Negombo visiting Cultural Triangle, Kandy, the Tea Country and then finishing with a few days on the beach. Into this itinerary you can also insert one or two days at either Yala, Sinharaja or Uda Walawe National Parks.
Two Weeks in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Holidays (three weeks):
A three-week Sri Lanka holiday leaves you ample time to see the best of this tropical paradise, allowing you to relax, slow the pace and tarry a while in your favourite destinations.If embarking on an island tour you can start with some time on the north-west coast (Negombo or Kalpitiya) followed by 3-4 days in Cultural Triangle. Consider extending time in Kandy to visit the Knuckles or Victoria Golf and Country Club.In the hill country you will have time to consider climbing Adam’s Peak or a stay in the less-visited Ella and Bandarawela.Try to spend some time on the less-developed Tangalle coast before spending time on the beaches in the Galle area. At non-peak times of year, you might even take the liberty of not planning too far ahead, and updating your itinerary as you go.A three-week stay might also encourage you to combine a Sri Lanka tour with a week in the Maldives, or to venture off to Kerala and Karnataka with the help of our burgeoning South India programme.
