Our story

Tailor Made Holidays in India with Red Dot

Our tailor-made trips to India are completely personal and private and this means complete flexibility and creativity. India is a country of extraordinary richness and diversity and it's impossible to summarise India in a simple paragraph. Although each one of our trips is bespoke, our tailor-made tours to India aim to take in India's rich ancient history, its authentic traditions and contemporary richness.

From the scale and energy of its cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Mumbai to moments of stillness and calm in temples in Ladakh, deserts in Rajasthan and Himalayan mountains in eastern India, India offers experiences that are both exhilarating and deeply moving and life changing. It's also one of the best destinations for wildlife globally. India is a destination that seriously rewards flexibility and curiosity. A well-planned trip to India stays with you long after you return home and many of our clients go back time and time again.

What makes a good trip to India?

A successful trip to India requires insight and understanding. Its scale, diversity and pace call for very careful judgement about where to go, when to travel and how to move between places in the most efficient and enjoyable way. Many of our specialists have either lived in India or have travelled there multiple times for long periods of time, so we know it incredibly well. Most of our trips come with a private car and private guides, and this makes an enormous difference. Our private tours to India allow you to experience the country in depth, at your own pace, with some of the best experts on the ground. We design them carefully, without rushing or compromise.

How we create a tailor-made tour to India

Designing tailor made holidays to India is what we do. At Red Dot, our knowledge comes from long standing relationships, regular travel within India and years spent creating bespoke, private, and discreetly luxurious holidays to India for discerning travellers. We bring genuine expertise to every itinerary, helping you make the most of a truly special trip with a journey that feels rewarding, well-paced and deeply engaging. To help inspire ideas, you can explore our collection of sample itineraries to India, which illustrate the range of journeys we design and adapt for each traveller. Needless to say, no two trips are the same and everything is designed from scratch for you.

Every private holiday to India begins with a conversation, ideally over the phone but we can also do this via email. We take time to understand what draws you to the country and why India is on your list, how you like to pace your travel and what kind of experiences matter most to you, whether that is culture and history, landscapes and wildlife, textiles and art or time simply to observe everyday local life. You may also be travelling as a family, in which case, everyone's interests need to be considered.

Using our very detailed regional knowledge and our trusted local partners, we create highly bespoke and personalised tailor-made holidays to India that feel natural rather than engineered. Our itineraries and routes make sense, travel times are realistic and accommodation is selected for style, comfort, character and location. Throughout your journey, experiences are private and led by our specialist guides in India who bring captivating insight, context and depth to each place you visit. Everything is supported on the ground, allowing your journey to unfold smoothly with your own driver, confidently and crucially your own pace.

Tailor-made tours to Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a region that has a very strong identity - this to many is quintessential India. It's here where Mughal history, Islamic architecture, Rajput courts, forts and gem engraved palaces sing in the most spectacular way. Incredible cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur contrast with desert towns such as Jaisalmer. The most incredible rural areas showcase deeply rooted traditions and a quiet way of life and we strongly recommend including smaller towns or villages, such Deogarh or Shahpura, as part of a private trip to Rajasthan. This quiet and almost medieval way of life won't exist forever and it’s these regions that offer the most genuine connections and insight.

For many travellers, a first journey to India includes the Golden Triangle, linking Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. When designed as part of a private, tailor-made holiday, this route offers an excellent introduction to India’s history and architecture while allowing time to explore beyond the main sights as we can include unique experiences, or a rural stop to compliment it. You may also want to add Varanasi to your trip in this region.

Beyond the Golden Triangle, journeys through Rajasthan can include quieter towns, rural landscapes, local bazaars and artisan communities, as well as wildlife rich areas that add variety and depth. Our private journeys in India through Rajasthan are shaped to allow time beyond the highlights, with heritage properties chosen for their setting and specialist guides providing insight and context at each stage.

Tailor-made tours to Kerala

Kerala offers a gentler way of travelling and is shaped by its tropical weather. Here you'll find beautiful backwaters, tea fields such as Munnar and historic coastal towns such as Cochin. These create a calm contrast to the busier regions of India further north. Kerala is often a good introduction to India, or a calmer option for families. Our private holidays to Kerala are designed around balance; time spent on the water, in nature and at carefully selected hotels is combined in a way that feels restful rather than rushed. Kerala can also be combined with Tamil Nadu and the wider south, which offers even more depth, cultural and religious significance.

Tailor-made tours to Ladakh

Ladakh is an incredible high-altitude region that we particularly love, defined by dramatic mountain scenery, vast open spaces, and a strong Buddhist culture. Its remoteness makes it one of the most distinctive places to visit in India. Our highly bespoke itineraries to Ladakh require careful planning, local contacts and knowledge of where to stay. Allowing time to acclimatise, choosing routes that work with the landscape and planning visits around local life are essential. Our tailor-made trips to India that include Ladakh are shaped by this understanding, creating journeys that feel adventurous, comfortable and deeply rewarding.

Tailor-made tours to East India

Eastern India remains less visited but for those with travel experience, we couldn’t recommend it more, offering rich cultural experiences for travellers looking beyond the main routes. From the artistic and intellectual heritage of Kolkata (Calcutta) to rural landscapes, forests and temple towns, the region reveals a different side of India. Journeys here can also extend into the Northeast, where tea plantations, tribal cultures and wildlife areas such as Kaziranga National Park add further depth. Our tailor-made trips to Eastern India benefit from local insight and careful planning, with private journeys designed to feel immersive, informed and unhurried.

Tailor-made wildlife tours in India

India is home to an extraordinary range of wildlife, protected across national parks and reserves throughout the country. Tigers, elephants, birdlife, and diverse ecosystems make wildlife an important part of many private holidays to India. Bespoke wildlife holidays in India are designed around the right locations, seasons and travel pace. From Central India’s well-known reserves such as Kanha, Pench, Bandhavgarh and Satpura to lesser-known parks, journeys are led by specialist naturalist guides and supported by well-located lodges. Allowing time for observation and exploration creates meaningful encounters with the natural world.

How do you get around on your private India tour?

Getting around India comfortably is an important part of travelling well, and thoughtful planning makes a real difference. On a private holiday to India with Red Dot you will be with your own experienced, English-speaking driver in a private vehicle, allowing flexibility and ease as you move between places. Specialist guides then join you in specific regions to add further local insight, whether exploring historic cities, wildlife reserves, or cultural sites. Days and journeys are paced to suit you. Some travellers prefer to see and do more, while others enjoy a slower, more relaxed approach, and we plan each itinerary accordingly. There is also a degree of flexibility once you are there, allowing plans to adapt naturally if something captures your interest or you would like to take things more slowly. Where appropriate, internal flights or rail journeys are included to reduce travel time, ensuring the experience feels balanced and enjoyable.

How much does a tailor-made itinerary cost to India?

The cost of one of our private journeys to India varies depending on how you choose to travel and the experiences you would like to include. Factors such as the time of year, length of stay, choice of accommodation, internal travel and level of guiding all influence the overall cost. Travelling privately with specialist guides, experienced drivers and carefully selected hotels naturally sits at a higher level than group or off the shelf tours, but it also allows for a far more rewarding and personal experience and you may be surprised at the value, particularly if you are happy staying in beautiful homestays or more simple boutique hotels. At Red Dot, we focus on value rather than excess, helping you decide where it is worth investing and how to make the most of your budget without compromising comfort or depth. Generally speaking, our trips start at around £3500 per person, but it's possible to do it for less if you travel out of season. To see how different choices translate into real journeys, you can explore our collection of India itineraries, which range from classic introductions to extended, immersive routes that can be adapted entirely around you. The prices here are starting prices out of season.

When is the best time to visit India?

India is huge so weather patterns aren't simple, but for most of the country October - April is the best time to visit. If you want to travel in summer, we'd recommend visiting Ladakh (high season is between May and September). Please find out more in our comprehensive India weather guide.

What is included in a tailor-made tour of India with Red Dot?

Included will be your own private vehicle and driver, all hotels, breakfasts, private guides, local hosts and specialist experiences. We can also arrange your flights for you as well.

What our travellers say

If Red Dot ever ceased to exist and I wanted to return to Sri Lanka I would probably go somewhere else instead. They were, in every way shape and form, impeccable. From Samanthie who created the itinerary to Wicky who drove us here, there and everywhere I cannot imagine anybody doing it better. Impeccable. I need say no more except it doesn’t get any better.

We chose this company as we wanted our money to benefit the people of Sri Lanka rather than international companies. Their work supports smaller businesses, projects and communities as well as the environment

Our 11th visit to this magical Island with always something new to discover and see. This time we made it up north to Jaffna, via Mannar Island, after beginning in the tea country and acclimatising to the heat, after leaving a very cold UK in January. We had total confidence that RedDot would organise everything to perfection, having used them many times before

We had a fantastic holiday. The itinerary and choice of hotels was spot on, and seamlessly organised.

Exceptional tour of Sri Lanka with Dami. We cannot recommend Dami at Red dot tours highly enough. As our guide over 9 days he made sure that our trip to Sri Lanka was unforgettable- always going above & beyond to impart his knowledge, show us things off the beaten track, looking after us, getting us to try many local delicacies & making us laugh .. a LOT. Cannot imagine anyone doing a better job- if we could take him with us on every holiday we would!

Dulmini did a great job listening to our wishes and arranged an itinerary that was very busy but met all our needs. Sisira, our guide, was outstanding, providing us with great local knowledge and suggesting other activities on our travels. He was a great driver on the busy Sri Lankan roads, was always punctual but above all added colour to the whole trip.

I cannot recommend Red Dot Tours more highly. Thank you so much to Samanthie for her patience with me and all her hard work at putting together the perfect itinerary for my family. I had done a lot of research before I contacted Red Dot and Samanthie created a tour that fitted in all the activities we wanted to do and secured the hotels I told her we would like to stay in (not easy to do in high season).

Wow what can I say, from start to finish we have had a wonderful holiday with Red Dot Tours. Dulmini was so helpful in putting an itinerary together for us as a family of 6 and catering to all of our needs. We have ticked off so many of Sri Lanka’s beautiful sights during our trip. Dulmini and Dhanu were a great help to us while we were out on our travels too.

We spent 13 days on a Bawa tour with wonderful driver and guide Manjula, including Kandalama Heritance, The Kandy House, The Last House, Jetwing Yala, Jetwing Lighthouse and Club Villa hotels. We are 3 friends, one of them in the wheelchair. Dulmini Ekanayake from Red Dot Tours was very helpful and very patient and found solutions to all our special demands.

The itinerary was absolutely perfect and the hotels wonderful, especially Thotalagala, The Warden’s House and 41 Lighthouse Street. Our driver, Indika, was a delight-charming, knowledgeable, considerate and always punctual; he showed us more of this amazing country than we could have hoped for!

Wanted to take a moment to thank RedDot Tours, and specifically Jayandi for helping book a wonderful family vacation for my family and I. First time for my family and Jayandi took care of every detail, was so courteous and professional, and genuinely cared about our experience in SL. I would also like to mention Pradeep, our kind and understanding guide/chauffeur who took such good care of us while we were out and about. I cannot recommend RedDot enough!

We used Red Dot for the first time for our holiday in Sri Lanka. Dulmini put together such a wonderful experience for us, creating an itinerary she drew up after many discussions about what we like and also gave us suggestions for excursions and activities. It was totally bespoke and we were able to make changes throughout this process.

This is an excellent tour company. They planned our Sri Lankan holiday from start to finish. The trip was initially planned for 2022 but due to Covid and other issues we didn’t manage to undertake the trip until this year. Throughout all this time we had the same travel advisor Lahiru who responded quickly to my emails and rearranged and adjusted our holiday each year!

As a group of 8 we have had the most fabulous tour of Sri Lanka organised by Dulmini from RedDot who totally understood my brief of "some" culture, agriculture, nature, trekking and relaxation. The hotels chosen were a wonderful mixture of homestay, tented and pure luxury (Ceylon Tea Trails). The experiences to local villages, trekking the Pekoe Trail and climbing Pidurangala were memorable and our wonderful guide, Ananda, was so informative and knowledgeable and adapted to our needs admirable (not easy with a group of 8)
